| Fly Fishing Pro Jim Collins with Guadalupe Trout |
Guadalupe River Fishing Report and River Conditions: 1-10-09, Flow is low and
slow, but very fish-able with a lot of sight casting. Trip with fly fishing pro Jim Collins, from the Angler's Edge
in Houston yielded several nice rainbows caught on streamers. There were many violent strikes with airborne action.
Jim also hooked a largemouth bass that was so big, we thought he was snagged on a submerged log, until it began to fight.
He also landed another little, hard fighting bass. We did about 3 river miles in the trophy trout section.
See picture below.
Guadalupe River Fishing Report and River Conditions: 1-11-09, Flow is low, with good
clarity, making for many sight fishing opportunities. Guide trip with Fly Fishing Pro Bruce Young, from the Tackle Box
Outfitters in San Antonio, produced many violent hookups using streamers. Chuck, a good friend of Bruce's, landed
a nice 'Bow while sight casting. We also witnessed the largest rainbow this guide has ever seen in Texas.
It was mortally wounded during the fight, and the angler did the right thing by taking the fish home. It will probably
be the new state record. See picture below.

It was Scott's first time to fly fish and he landed more fish than the other anglers we saw on the river. Other
anglers on the river complained about the slow activity, but we spanked the fish, because we had the right flies on.
Guadalupe River Fishing Report and River Conditions: 2-19-09, Mitch Elder from San Antonio hosted his
dad, Tim from Ohio. We did about 3 river miles in the "Trophy Trout Section." Other anglers complained
about the "slow action." We caught and released many fat rainbows up to 6lbs. Tip to other anglers:
"Match the hatch!" Seems simple enough, but you need the right flies, and you have to be able to identify
insects. Mitch Elder's Guadalupe Trout is pictured below.
